Hailing from Toronto Canada, Blitzkrieg is bringing a fresh new flavour to Desi Hip Hop music… Not only has he collaborated with almost every artist in the UK Asian scene, but his music has even been featured in Bollywood! His latest single ‘Kiss’ (Chumma) taken from his new album ‘Get Blitz’ features the massive bhangra trio RDB and has already set the expectations extremely high for his forthcoming tracks! So I catch up with Blitz to find out where it all began…
 1) For those who haven’t heard a lot of your music, tell us a bit about yourself?
For those who don't know my names Blitz (Blitzkrieg). I'm a hip-hop artist with an East Indian background from Toronto Canada . I have been working with Tigerstyle and touring the UK for the past 3-4 yrs now. I was the first Canadian artist nominated for 2 UK Asian music awards and have performed all over the world and even had my vocals featured in Bollywood movies.
2) You are no stranger to the music industry, since being discovered by Punjabi MC in 2002. How did that all come about?
Haha not too sure. I recorded my demo while in high school and PMC heard it and played it on his online radio show “60 minutes of desi”. He was impressed by rhymes and style...since then it’s been a great musical journey. Its funny how universal music is....I was a high school kid in Toronto and had PMC playing my music in UK...it’s a great honour.
3) When did you discover that you had a real talent for rapping?
I have been rapping since I was 10 yrs old. I always loved to perform and rap as long as I can remember. I used to misbehave in class and my teacher would allow me to perform at the end of class if I behaved haha. Since than I took guitar and drum lessons, also got a marketing degree so I could promote myself.
4) The Desi/ Rap collaboration works really well… are these two genres of music you were always influenced by?
Of course… I’m a really big hip-hop fan; I love it more than anything. And obviously being Punjabi I was influenced by Bollywood and Bhangra while growing up in my parents household.
 5) What exciting projects have you been working on since your highly successful debut album ‘Rhyme Book’?
I currently am promoting my new album get blitz which has numerous great collabo’s on it. I’m also involved in a music video company in Toronto Canada which enables me to help create music videos for other artist. I was also featured on Roach killa, Tigerstyle, and Gunjans albums. And I had my vocals featured on the Bollywood song “twist” from Saif Ali khan’s movie “Love Aaj Kaal”.
6) What can we expect from your new album ‘Get Blitz’?
It’s a collaboration album…so every song has a great collabo featured on it. I wanted every song to be unique and memorable in its own way and I think I achieved my goal. I have featured artist such as: RDB, Juggy D, Tigerstyle, Navin Kundra, Kazz Kumar, Josh, AG Dolla, Parichay, Roach Killa, and many more.
7) Tell us a bit about your first single “Kiss” from the new album. What was is like working with RDB?
Rdb are amazing. Really nice and humble guys and that are easy to work with. Manj actually lives in Toronto so we decided to collabo and make some songs together. Their work ethic and grind is inspirational.
8) Originally from Toronto, where there is also a massive Desi following, does the scene differ to the UK Asian scene in any way?
Ya it differs a lot. We are generations behind the UK Desi scene because desi’s have been living in UK for so much longer. But their is so much talent in Canada…just not enough media outlets yet.
9) You have collaborated with a number of talented artists and producers, are there any that have really stuck out for you?
Every artist i work with is talent and unique in their own way. The most memorable and my fav collabos are obviously making songs with my good friends such as Roach Killa, Also working with Tigerstyle, Mentor and Juggy D. Those guys are my UK family...its always a great time in the studio and natural chemistry in the studio.
10) What have you got in the pipeline for the rest of the year? Any surprises?
I got so much more planned. Currently I’m launching the RDB single “kiss” (chumma) releasing august 01 2010. The album “get blitz” will be available in September. I will have 3 more videos releasing in the next few months (feat Juggy D, Navin Kundra, & Mentor). I also have more major announcements coming soon.
